It’s here! 4.7 is here! We at Mikogo are thrilled to announce the beta release of the VOIP voice conferencing service which our dev team have been working hard on bringing to you. Although it is only in the beta stages, it is fully-functioning and ready for you! We have the utmost confidence that once you experience a Mikogo voice conference, you’ll be as pleased with it as we are 🙂
Users can start their voice conference upon launching the software. All they need to do is start a desktop sharing session, as per usual, and they will see the option for Voice Conferencing while they share their screen. The icon for this will be a headset and will be accompanied by a drawer that reads “Voice Conferencing (Beta)”. From there you can speak through a headset or speak into your computer’s built-in microphone with ease.
Easy Voice Conferencing
One factor that was important in making this addition was that the voice option be hassle-free and easy-to-use. We understand that there other conferencing services out there which can make life complicated where it doesn’t need to be. With our new voice service, audio conferencing with Mikogo is a clear, two-way connection with 2 easy to control microphone and speaker volume settings – all built-in and available directly from within the software interface which has been designed for easy navigation and use. From there, users can speak to each other via VOIP while simultaneously sharing their screens in a Mikogo desktop sharing session. Desktop sharing and free VOIP combined has made Mikogo a full-blown web conferencing service.

As presenter, you are given complete control over the voice control options for everyone within the sessions. You are able to mute particular individuals or mute everyone in the session but yourself. While participants do have some control (the ability to unmute themselves), ultimately, supreme control lies with the presenter. Think of yourself as supreme voice conferencing overlord!
Let’s Get Started…
Now that you know what to expect, we suppose that you’re ready to give it a try. Go to http://www.mikogo.com/beta/ where you can download Mikogo 4.7 and try the new voice conferencing feature for yourself. Count yourself an expert and let us know what you think! We would love to get your feedback so we can hear which specific features of the voice conferencing you’re enjoying the most!
I have just used the integrated voice conferencing option. This is definitely the missing link to this product!!
It worked flawlessly and allowed me to view a new website design with a client and make changes in real time with him!!
The only thing that would have made things easier would be to have the option to enable voice conferencing when setting up the conference (either scheduled or not) so that additional buttons didn’t need pressing after the conference had started.
I can see me using this a lot more now!
@Daryl
Great to hear you’re liking the new voice conferencing feature! Interesting suggestion about automating the voice feature upon meeting start up. Will send that over to the dev team to see what they say about it.
Thanks for taking the time to leave us your feedback!
You save on travel costs, and the down-time incurred while everyone flies to the other side of the country to attend a meeting, stays in a posh hotel, and takes their expense accounts for walks round the good restaurants. Accountants and bosses love it, the guys who attend the meetings hate it. It’s also usually a lot easier to get all the right people to sit down in front of a terminal somewhere, than to get them all to show up in the same place at once.
Are there plans to integrate the landline with voip? I think I read somewhere this was called “unified” audio. This would be huge for us.
@Eddie,
do you mean, will there be an option for participants to join the voice conference either via the VOIP option or via a landline? This is what we refer to as a “hybrid” solution and I believe it is the same thing you are referring to when you call it “unified”. Yes this is something we are looking into!
Also there will be further features and functionality in the voice conferencing feature in the next release – stay tuned!
Are you guys thinking about implementing the sound option in linux client as well, or it is only a WINDOWSMAC feature?
@Paul – VOIP for linux is on the 2013 roadmap but not yet in development. The VOIP feature for Mac is indeed in development and should be available as a beta feature soon
(different Paul) – but similar question – any update on Linux client VOIP option?
@different Paul
The VOIP option is still a beta feature for both Windows/Mac – we are encouraging as many users as possible to use it and test it so we can iron out any wrinkles. For example, we have just released it in version 4.7.1. While we continue this, we will not yet move onto Linux development.
Any news on 4.7 for Linux?
@Karel, we’re currently working on the VoIP beta feature for Windows and Mac and bringing that to an official release so unfortunately we don’t have a Linux version with audio support at present
The lack of this feature on Linux is holding me back from a purchase — I’ve really been going back and forth between google hangouts, adobe connect, and mikogo…but the lack of audio and whiteboard for the linux hosted conferences makes me wonder how much Mikogo is truly committed to Linux support. I generally avoid companies that treat Linux as a second class citizen.
It is now 2016 and the Linux version is still stuck on 4.5 with no audio.
Hi, We were just checking out the features of Mikogo but the VOIP functionality doesn’t seem to be available for those who join a session using their mobile phones? Is that right? If not, how can a user with a mobile phone join a voip call on mikogo?
Hi, you can either start a VoIP or a phone conference. If some of your participants want to join via a mobile phone, you have to start the phone conference and ask all participants to dial into the conference. We’re working on a hybrid solution to allow phones and VoIP participants into the same conference room. Stay tuned!
