Earlier this year we released a series of Join Mikogo buttons for you to embed in your website. Since the look of Mikogo changed a bit, we bring you a fresh, new bunch of buttons! As before, you are welcome to help yourself to these buttons to add to your website, and allow your session participants to join from your website.

Placing a Button on your website:
You can easily place a button on your site by copying and pasting the appropriate block of HTML code into your website. The button that you chose will appear on your site, and when a participant clicks on it they will have the possibility to join your session from your website rather than visiting the Mikogo homepage.

The first button will link to http://join.mikogo.com which is available for both PC and Mac users joining a Mikogo session. You can test it for yourself by simply clicking on the example button below.

The next two buttons are a little different to the above button, but more in line to what you would be used to from the buttons that we released earlier this year. Instead of linking to the Join Session webpage, the buttons below link to the Mikogo software. There are two buttons – one for Mac participants and one for Windows participants.

Please feel free to take your buttons of choice and place them on your website.

We are definitely interested in hearing your feedback on the buttons. Check them out, and please leave a comment on which buttons you prefer.
And if you add one or more of the buttons to your website, feel free to share the new addition to your website by leaving a link in a comment below so we can check it out and see which buttons are the most popular. This will be nice to see and gives us an impression of which buttons are liked more than others.

Looking for something else? For example, if you use Mikogo solely for remote support, then you may only want the words “Remote Support” on a button. Let us know what type of button you’re after by leaving a comment below.

Last month we blogged about Mark Johnston, Company President of Bolero Innovations Inc., who shared his Mikogo story on his company benefits from desktop sharing for online trainings and client demos. Today we bring you the next Mikogo Story from the British online travel company, Beat The Brochure.

Introducing Beat The Brochure
Beat The Brochure is the leading online travel company in the UK and offers their customers the best worldwide travel prices available on the Internet. Beat The Brochure is a division of the award-winning Como Street Travel Group.

“Within 60 seconds I was
sharing my desktop with
our development team on
the other side of the world!”

Daniel Ox
E-Commerce Director
Beat The Brochure

The Challenge
Beat The Brochure’s UK Project Manager, Daniel Ox, is regularly working in collaboration with off-shore developers which led to the need for a software solution that would overcome communication barriers. “We required a desktop sharing solution that would allow us to break those barriers down, by working together visually when there is an issue that cannot be communicated by instant messaging or phone,” explains Daniel.

The Solution
Mikogo encompasses powerful and highly secure web conferencing software within a User Interface that is designed with ease of use in mind, providing a quick and effective solution for starting online meetings. “My first thought was just how simple the software is to use. Within 60 seconds of the download I was sharing my desktop with our development team on the other side of the world. It’s the clean and fast solution that we needed.”

The Conclusion
Mikogo is now an essential tool for the British company and has become a key application used multiple times every week to resolve technical problems during web development. “Technical problems cannot be explained over the phone due to their complexity, and this is where Mikogo helps us through visual explanation.”
“It’s a great time saver, and more importantly it can keep the stress levels to a minimum!”

Since the release of the Mac version, Mikogo has attracted the attention of many well known tech writers, websites, and Mac focused publications. This includes the renowned magazine and website, Macworld. Macworld UK yesterday posted a review on their website and gave Mikogo a stamp of approval with an Editor’s Choice 4-Star Award.

Mid last week I spent close to two hours with Macworld’s Nick Spence. As you can imagine, when I say “spent” time with Macworld I do not mean a face-to-face meeting On the contrary. By utilizing Mikogo’s free desktop sharing for the primary purpose of demonstrating the Mikogo software and later presenting and discussing each others websites, we held our meeting over the Web with Nick in England and myself in Germany. Nick enjoyed Mikogo’s “unobtrusive” interface and found both the remote keyboard and mouse control and participant pointer to be highly effective.

Nick also mentioned that he would later test out Mikogo over the weekend with friends in England and overseas.

Nick Spence writes:

This is a useful addition for trouble shooting computer problems, training and learning or simply if you want to collaborate in real time online. A notification window keeps track of what’s going on including the transferring of any files or documents, which can be defaulted to be your desktop so they are easy to find.
We also loved the participant pointer, a simple but effective tool for highlighting and aiding discussions and demonstrations.

Nick was of course curious about the development of further features in the Mikogo Mac version and I assured him that I will keep him posted as we make further developments.

To read the review, drop by the Macworld reviews page.

With the launch of the new Mikogo website approaching, we are introducing “Share Your Mikogo Story” – where you can share your experience of Mikogo and have yourself or company featured on our new website. Consequently we are looking for interested Mikogo users who would like to share their thoughts and opinions on Mikogo for a case study. If you are interested, please leave a comment under this blog post. Below you can read the Mikogo Story from Bolero Innovations Inc.

Introducing Bolero Innovations Inc.

With over twenty-five years of combined hands-on experience, Bolero Innovations Inc. are professional web design service providers who are uniquely qualified to deliver a myriad of web technologies and framework applications. Company President, Mark Johnston, has spent 12 years of his professional career as a Senior Project Manager in the software development industry.

“It is our primary tool for
client demos and it makes
training people a breeze!”

Mark Johnston
Company President
Bolero Innovations Inc.

The Challenge

Bolero Innovations Inc. provides a wide range of web design services and needs to regularly organize client demos in addition to training sessions for both employees and clients. While having previously paid for online meeting software, Mark was searching for an affordable and easy-to-use solution to online trainings.

The Solution

It was Mikogo’s fast installation and easy-to-use user interface that impressed the Bolero President: “I was astounded by how simple it was to get started. As an application architect and user interface designer for over 13 years, I must say that Mikogo was the most hassle-free installation I have seen in a long time.”

“But my favorite part is how unobtrusive it is – finally an application that simply works, and only works when you want it to work, without making a peep when you don’t.”

The Conclusion

Now as the company’s primary tool for online demos, Mikogo is being used daily by Bolero Innovations. “Brilliant product! I cannot say enough good things about it. Prior to Mikogo’s free solution, we were using overly complicated and dreadfully slow products and paying monthly fees. All applications should be as easy to install and use as Mikogo. Mikogo has created the best, most efficient, easy to use, unobtrusive screen sharing application the world over.”

The Bolero Innovations Inc. Case Study is available as a PDF download.

Good news – today we have released the remote control feature for Mac users! This allows you to start a meeting from a Mac or PC, and then assist others via remote support, regardless of whether they join your meeting from a Mac or PC. Now you can use Mikogo as a cross-platform tool for not only web conferences and online meetings but also remote support, and you won’t pay a cent.
Mikogo Press Release

Mikogo Releases Cross-Platform Remote Support Software

Mannheim, GERMANY April 15, 2009 – Mikogo has announced the release of the new remote control feature for its Mac Beta version, equipping the free cross-platform web conference software with a valuable remote support function. The news comes shortly after the successful release of Mikogo’s first Mac Beta version a month ago, and complements Mikogo’s version for PC computers.

Both Mikogo’s PC and Mac versions provide an easy-to-use web conferencing solution that allows any private user or company to organize an online meeting with up to 10 participants. Following today’s release, Mikogo users have a multi-purpose cross-platform application for online meetings as well as remote support, and all at no cost.

“Since last month’s Beta version, Mac users have been picking up our software for online meetings, web conferencing and screen sharing,” explains Erik Boos, Co-Founder of Mikogo. “Now with the new remote control feature, companies have an all-in-one software application that allows them to not only make Web presentations and conferences but also assist clients via remote support.”

Are you building an impressive collection of portable software tools that require no installation? Now you can add the latest version of Mikogo’s portable version to your collection and start meetings directly from your USB stick.

The benefit of this is that you can carry your Mikogo software on your USB drive and start meetings from your work computer and later start meetings from home or other computers. No need to install the software.

How to get the portable version:

Simply download it and save it to your USB drive. You’ll then have “Mikogo-Portable” with the icon on your portable stick. Double-click on it, Mikogo will instantly start and the little icon will appear in your system tray. Click on the icon, select “Start Meeting” and enter your user details. Click OK, and the meeting will begin – Simple!

And now you can share any content on your screen (i.e. your desktop, word documents, spreadsheets, slides, pictures, web pages, etc…) with your meeting participants.

Also, your user details (username & password) will be saved so there is no need to re-enter your details when you start a meeting from another computer. Next time you open your USB drive, open Mikogo, and select “Start Meeting”, the meeting will simply begin.

Enjoy!

Successful Mac Release Leads Mikogo to Preview Further Features
Mannheim, GERMANY March 24, 2009 – Following the successful release of its debut Mac software version less than two weeks ago, Mikogo is wasting no time announcing that greater cross-platform capability is already on its way. Mikogo has announced that a remote control feature is to be included in its next soon-to-be-released Mac Beta version, providing a combined remote support and online meeting tool at no cost.

While some competitor products may boast screen sharing for meetings and other’s for remote support, they will struggle to match Mikogo’s offer. The next version of the Mikogo Mac version will bring the best of both world’s together branding Mikogo as a cross-platform software application that is armed to the teeth with valuable features, and available at no cost for commercial and private use.

By employing the new Mikogo Mac Beta version, both Mac and PC users will be able to organize screen sharing sessions for the purposes of online meetings, Web presentations, Web demos, e-learning, and importantly, remote support.

“With the new Mac version, businesses have a tool that enables their sales department to conduct product demos, while their service department can support clients remotely, regardless of whether the involved parties are on a Mac or PC computer,” explains Mark Zondler, Co-Founder of Mikogo.

The talk of such a complete cross-platform desktop sharing solution, comes shortly after the successful release of the Mikogo Mac Beta version on the 11th March 2009. The release was met with great enthusiasm from Mac and PC users across the planet, with Mikogo appearing on countless of personal and professional blogs, news sites, as well as notable tech Web publications including VentureBeat, Macworld, PCWorld, PCMag, TMCnet and MakeUseOf.

The combination of Mikogo’s current features and cross-platform capability with that of remote control, is expected to appeal to a wide audience of both Mac and PC business users, and will result in the long neck of the Mikogo giraffe towering above the crowd.

Last month we released several Join Meeting buttons for you to place on your blog or website, and allow your participants to join your meetings directly from your website. This was before the release of the Mac Beta version. Consequently we have made new buttons that you may place on your website for Mac participants to join your meetings without having to visit the Mikogo homepage.

We have also made a couple of new buttons for Windows participants. There are several buttons for Windows and Mac participants available below. We have provided the HTML code below each button.

Placing a Button on your website:
To place a button on your site, copy and paste the appropriate block of HTML code into your website. The button that you have chosen will appear on your site, and when a participant clicks on it they will open the Mikogo software for participants.
If you place a Windows button, they will open the Mikogo.exe file for Windows participants. If you place a button for Mac users on your site, when they click on it they will open the Mikogo.dmg for Mac participants.

To test out the buttons, feel free to click on any of the buttons below and you will see that the appropriate Mikogo participant software will open for either Windows or Mac computers, depending on which button you click on.

Please feel free to take your buttons of choice and place them on your website.

In this blog post we’d like to provide a little insight for the Mikogo Community on how to use the Mikogo Meeting Scheduler, and how to organize and get the best from your free online meetings.

Opening the Scheduler
The first thing to note, is that you can open your Scheduler before you start a meeting or during a meeting. Click on the M icon in the system tray and select “Scheduler”:

The Scheduler then opens, and in this case you can see that I have already scheduled 2 meetings:
(Click on image to enlarge and view it)

To Start a Scheduled Meeting
In order for a scheduled meeting to start, you have to open your Scheduler and click “Start”. Meetings will not begin automatically simply because the scheduled time and date has been reached – this is for security reasons.
To start a scheduled meeting, click on the meeting so it is highlighted in blue and then click “Start”.

The meeting will begin and you will receive the Meeting Info window containing the exact same ID as assigned in the Scheduler i.e. 524-644-209

Once you have started the meeting, the meeting will be highlighted in green in your Scheduler indicating that the meeting is now in progress:

IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE:
1. Start the same meeting at any time:
Please note that you do not have to start the meeting at the exact time that was scheduled. In this case the meeting was originally scheduled for 6th Feb 2009 at 11:30am. However if I wish I can start the same meeting at any time and day I wish e.g. today Wednesday 18th March 2009

2. Meeting ID will always be the same:
For any scheduled meeting, the same meeting ID will always be saved in my scheduler and I can start this meeting with this ID at any time I wish. This allows me to save multiple meeting IDs and send them in advance to my meeting participants. So I can start this particular meeting whenever I wish and I will always receive this ID, 524-644-209.

Scheduling a New Meeting
To add a new scheduled meeting, click on “New”. The window, seen below, opens and you can then set the following:

Topic

Start (including date, time and time zone)

Expected Duration

Recurrence Pattern

Your Name

Meeting Password (only if you wish to set a password for the meeting)

Conference Call Information
If you intend to use the Mikogo Voice Conferencing service, tick the checkbox as in the image above. This will simply include the call conference info in your scheduled meeting details, which you can later send to your participants. You can later choose if you actually wish to have a conference call with your participants or not. Ticking the checkbox just means you opt to send your participants this info.

If you wish to send your participants info for another conferencing service, you can do so by checking “Use Own Conference Call Service”. This will then allow you to type in the white text box below and provide the information on your conference call service that your participants will require.
Tick the disk icon under the text box to save this info for later needs.

If you wish to receive an email shortly before your scheduled meeting to remind you, tick “Remind Me” and enter your email address in the field.

When you have filled out all the fields you require, click “Save”. You will then see your Scheduler again containing the new scheduled meeting.

Starting Today’s Meeting
Come the day of a scheduled meeting, in this case today is Wednesday, the meeting scheduled for the day will be highlighted in orange. When it comes to the scheduled time, click on the meeting and click “Start”. You will then receive the Meeting Info Window with the appropriate meeting ID.

Sending the Meeting Info to Participants
From the image above you can see a few buttons at the bottom of the Scheduler. Click on your meeting of choice, and then click “Email Invitation”. Alternatively you can click on “Copy Invitation” and then paste the info into a new email. This will contain all the info that you included when you made the new scheduled meeting. Then email it to your participants.
Of course you can do this days before the meeting begins and notify your participants of the upcoming meeting.

Participants Joining a Meeting
Say for example, yesterday you emailed your participants the info for today’s meeting. A couple of minutes before you start the meeting, a participant goes to www.mikogo.com, clicks on “Join Meeting” and enters the meeting ID. In this case, the participant will arrive in the waiting room until you start the meeting:

A couple of minutes later when you do in fact start the meeting, the participants who are in the waiting room will instantly be joined to the meeting.

Well, here it is: the Mikogo Mac Beta version! You’ve no doubt read about this via my email yesterday, or blog post the day before, or perhaps a friend/colleague of yours let you in on the goss. Whatever the reason, I imagine you are here because you are keen to test the Mikogo Mac Beta version and contact us with your feedback.

A few things to note:

The client is cross platform, so that both Mac and PC users can start meetings, and invite both Mac and PC users to participate. I.e. Windows participants can join a meeting started by a Mac user. This means a few different downloads:

Mac Download: There is just one download to both start and join meetings with a Mac.
Mikogo Mac Client (.dmg)

Windows Download:
Mikogo Organizer – this is needed to start meetings
Mikogo Participant – this is needed to join meetings. (just download, not an install)

There are no passwords required to receive the above files – simply download them.

Once you have downloaded the Mikogo Mac client, you can start meetings by using your current Mikogo username and password. For those beta testers who are new to Mikogo, you can register for a free Mikogo account here. Please note, that only the meeting organizer needs account details. Participants do not need to register in order to join.

Getting Mikogo Started on the Mac
For details and screenshots on getting Mikogo started on the Mac, please take a look at the Mikogo Mac webpage.

Beta Feedback
As mentioned Mikogo is now cross platform. Ideally it would be great to receive beta feedback from a range of different scenarios (if it is possible). e.g. Mac/PC as organizer and Mac/PC as participant.

Once you have tested the Mikogo Mac Beta version and you wish to send us your feedback, please take note of the following:
1. all feedback should be sent to mac(at)mikogo.com
2. Please include your hardware and software specifications
3. If you find a problem/bug, please help us by providing a detailed description, ideally with screenshots and with steps on how this may be reproduced.

Please understand that we require the above points to ensure that we can quickly identify problems, fix them, and then officially finalize the Mac version for everyone.

Features Available in Mikogo Mac version

Starting and joining meetings

Switch presenter

Mouse pointer for participants

Zoom viewing screen

We will release new Mac beta versions with further features (e.g. remote control) as and when they become available – so stay tuned

We’re keen to officially release the Mac version, so once again thanks for your help and beta testing.

We are pleased to announce that we will be releasing a native Mac client of the Mikogo software. This will be an exciting release as it means that Mikogo will be cross platform allowing Mac users to organize, present and participate in Mikogo free online meetings. But before we officially release the Mac version, we are calling out to the Mikogo Community and to the Mac Community for some beta testers.

The beta version will be made available shortly in a closed beta test and will be cross platform, so that Mac users can start meetings, and invite both Mac and PC users to participate. Vice versa, PC users will be able to start meetings (as they do now) and then invite both Mac and PC users to participate.

Are you a Mac user who is interested in taking part in the beta testing? If so please take a look at this new blog post for further details: Mikogo Mac Beta Version Available Here

Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you!

An inevitable consequence of the current global financial crisis is that of job loss. As job loss becomes a hot topic of discussion around the world, it would appear that those fortunate enough to remain employed are not exactly enjoying the old days of quality business life – especially when it comes to business travel.

Traveling business class, or even traveling in itself, is one area which is becoming a simple memory of the former ‘pre-financial crisis’ business life. It has been reported that business travel is indeed decreasing, with more and more business travelers having to travel in economy as a way of saving costs.

The implication is clear. With less business travelers, comes tougher financial times for the airline industry. One of the worst hit airlines is that of British Airways, who reported a decrease of over 8% in business traffic relative to a year earlier, while Lufthansa have also noted a decline in business passengers.

In order to keep their heads above water, airlines are expected to cut capacity by, for example, reducing the number of flights.

With tighter measures being taken and the prospect of fewer flights, companies can hardly be expected to travel for business – and rightly so. Those looking to overcome the financial crisis and reduce their costs can now do so via free online meetings with Mikogo. Companies across the world are utilizing the Mikogo software, and are effortlessly organizing and participating in business meetings and presentations, while subsequently avoiding the issues currently surrounding business travel.

Try out Mikogo for yourself and save the cost, time and hassle of life as a business traveler.

Something we have noticed over recent months, is the repeated mention of Mikogo on a range of different sorts of blogs and websites, and interestingly, in a vast amount of different languages. This led us to the obvious question: Where in the world are the Mikogo users?

At this point, the Mikogo Community is comprised of users from over 160 countries! Based on this, it is easy to imagine how Mikogo facilitates greater communication across the globe via the Internet and free desktop sharing.
It really is great to see that Mikogo is being enjoyed in so many countries. Considering that Mikogo is in English, it comes as no surprise that our free online meeting app is used primarily in the USA. However Mikogo is clearly popular in more countries than just the English-speaking world, and therefore it is definitely one of our big plans this year to have Mikogo translated into several languages – an exciting task at hand, and something that will no doubt appeal to thousands of Mikogo users around the world.
For those who enjoy a good blogging session, we would love to see more and more blog posts about Mikogo in your own native language. If you are blogging about Mikogo, feel free to let us know about your post by leaving a comment below.

As a result of globalization and the growth of multinational corporations, business travel has become the norm in order for colleagues and clients to meet. Companies have consequently been bearing the brunt of the corresponding hefty travel expenses, a cost which is being seriously questioned by corporate executives especially in light of recent economic events.

As economic development has in the past been the driving force between corporate expansion and therefore business travel, the current declining economy has brought about discussion on how companies can introduce cost-cutting strategies to their travel policies and in some cases even eradicate business travel expenses.

Many corporations have already started minimizing their travel expenses, and it would appear that their solution is to simply not travel. With this fall in demand on top of already high oil prices, airlines will need to make up for that revenue in other places. If airline rates do increase, as some have predicted, corporations will have more to think about when considering the need for business travel.

Cutting down on travel costs has become an important issue and companies are eliminating these costs while simultaneously saving valuable work hours, simply by using online collaboration software solutions.

Such practical and effective software solutions not only save companies time and money, but also play a vital role in the reduction of C02 emissions by eliminating the need to travel.

For tens-of-thousands of private users and small businesses, the Mikogo free desktop sharing tool provides the ideal solution by allowing the meeting organizer to invite up to 10 participants to an online meeting.

Small and medium-sized enterprises seeking a means to collaborate online, employ the services of the multiple BeamYourScreen fee-based software products and benefit from up to 20 meeting participants along with a wide range of features, including the award-winning HTML viewer.

Using desktop sharing software, you can save time and money by chairing a professional meeting directly from your desk with attendees participating from all over the globe.
