Streamlining processes to make the most of your time

With the move towards electronic documents and the paperless office, law practices are gradually turning towards today’s cutting-edge technology to make things easier and more efficient.
For solo practitioners like Stuart Levine, being independent provides an edge that larger firms can’t match. “I’m the decision maker,” he says. “I’m constantly juggling 20 different things — but when I find a tool that simplifies my life I can quickly adapt.”
Levine says he’s always looking for ways to make his work more efficient. “If a particular project takes an elongated amount of time, it becomes a lot more difficult to manage.”
That’s what drew him to Mikogo and desktop sharing. “Mikogo helps compress the time I need to spend on any particular project. The difference it’s made is remarkable.”
The Flexibility to Try New Solutions
“There’s a bit of a wow factor with clients — we’re literally working on the same page at the same time.”

“But it’s not about being tech savvy or not; I can look at a piece of software and see how it might make my business better. I tried Mikogo and it just worked.”
Condensing Otherwise Lengthy Processes
Levine says he uses Mikogo at least two or three times a week — it grows as he finds new ways to use it. “I can’t really say how much time it saves,” he says. “It just condenses the whole process.”
Describing a typical transaction, Levine explains that he would previously:
- send a document to two parties for review,
- receive comments from each party,
- incorporate both sets of comments, interpreting any changes and notes made,
- return the document to both parties, who would each see the other party’s comments for the first time… and then repeat the process until all sides were satisfied.
“Mikogo makes it so much easier: Each party has a copy of the document and we share screens through an online Mikogo session. Then we can literally make changes to the document together — in real time. When we finish the conversation, I can email the revised document right away, and everyone knows that this is an agreed upon draft.”
Value-Added Service for Clients
While Mikogo benefits his work with other lawyers, Levine feels it has had a greater impact on his clients.
He says that in addition to saving travel time, meeting time, and administrative work, it can also make your services more accessible for people with mobility issues. “Once you see Mikogo work, there are tremendous efficiencies involved — that’s the key.”
