Due to a short scheduled period of network maintenance in the data center hosting the Mikogo database servers, use of Mikogo might not be possible during the following times:
Midnight – 6:00am UTC+1 on 2nd February 2012
Midnight – 6:00am UTC+1 on 9th February 2012

The potential downtime is only expected to last 30 minutes, however we cannot pinpoint exactly when the downtime could take place during the above times. Unfortunately we cannot avoid these maintenance periods.

During these periods of maintenance, there are expected to be network interruptions. For Mikogo this means that you might be unable to start sessions and participants might be unable to join a session. Sessions already running will not notice any interruptions.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the maintenance and thank you for your understanding.

Is Mikogo feeling unwell? Depressed or unhappy? No! On the contrary – we’re very pleased with our latest software release and website update!
We have just released Mikogo Version 4.5 which, along with some small bug fixes, now has a new-look blue-green color scheme implemented into the software user interface. You will have also noticed that our website has undergone a blue green update to reflect our corporate colors and identity.

The New Blue Green Look

Mikogo is fast becoming the popular and chosen go-to product for web conferencing and online meetings for many businesses around the world. Towards the end of last year our software was ranked as the third highest in the web conferencing market, above the likes of WebEx. We then recently decided to implement our corporate BeamYourScreen colors into Mikogo. Now our business users have access to an online meeting product which is not only easy to use but also, in our opinion, communicates a more professional impression to your clients and colleagues.

Upgrading to the Blue Green Software

The new Version 4.5 software is now available from our download pages. While the mikogo-starter.exe program (for Windows users) will allow you to install the latest version without first removing any previous installation of Version 4 on your PC it would be best for Mac and Linux users to first remove your current installation of Mikogo and then download/install Version 4.5.
Also note that this upgrade is not mandatory at this point in time and if you do upgrade to Version 4.5 however a participant in your next online meeting still uses Version 4.3, there will be no problems – Versions 4.3 and 4.5 are compatible together.

Final note: what do you think about the new-look software and website? Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

As we all hit the ground running in the first few weeks of 2012, you no doubt have a list of goals and milestones that you wish to achieve for your company and for yourself. This is the year when you will define clear goals, complete all projects, meet the deadlines, exceed expectations, work within set budgets, and more.
You’ll be at your best in 2012 which means increasing productivity and efficiency. We would love to think that the Mikogo software will help you in achieving your 2012 goals. Make the most from online meetings this year by saving yourself valuable time and money while increasing productivity. To help out we have a few Mikogo pointers for the new year.

Getting Set for 2012

Below you can see we’ve written a short list with a few tips on helping you use Mikogo – a kind of “Mikogo New Year’s Resolution List”.

Set up my Profile Manager: there are multiple reasons why people use Mikogo such as group meetings, online sales pitches, training sessions, IT support, to name a few. There are also a wide range of features available in Mikogo but not all are needed for each Mikogo use case. Employ the Profile Manager to create and save new “Profiles” with different features for different use cases. Use your “Presentation Profile” for your next sales presentation and your “Support Profile” for your next IT support case. More info in the User Guide, Page 15.

Schedule Meetings in Advance: schedule meetings and reserve session IDs with the Scheduler. You can then email the meeting details in advance to your participants. Also by scheduling meetings, you will get to keep the session IDs which you can then use again and again in the future. More info in the User Guide, Page 18.

Ask Participants to Join via the HTML Viewer: if in your next presentation you only intend to present your screen to your participants and don’t need to switch presenter or use remote control, there is no need to ask your participants to download the Mikogo software. The HTML Viewer allows participants to join a session directly from any browser (on a PC, Mac, Linux or mobile phone) without any software downloads, configurations, ActiveX, or Java. More info available here.

We hope with these tips you can get more out of your Mikogo meetings in 2012 and move faster towards reaching your goals for the new year!

For those of you who have only used Mikogo Version 4, you may be very used to accessing all Mikogo features from the software panel that floats on your desktop. However those who remember previous versions of Mikogo (e.g. Version 3) will know that features could be accessed by clicking on the icon in the taskbar’s system tray. If you are new to Mikogo or a long-time user, either way you will be interested to learn that the “old school” feature menu can still be accessed in Version 4 as shown in the image to the right. Read on below for more details.

Accessing the menu from the taskbar (for Windows and Linux users) or from the menu bar (for Mac users) is not a great secret nor is there a complicated trick to it. You just have to right-click on the M icon. Simple.

When you do this before you’ve started a session, you will see a shorter menu offering you all the pre-session options. The menu you will see is shown in the image above.

You can also open the feature menu during a session which will display a full list of all the main Mikogo features and options, as depicted below:

Note that when you click on one of the options/features, the Mikogo Panel will pop-up on your desktop (assuming it’s minimized) and the appropriate drawer will open. A “tick” will appear next to the feature name that you have opened, as shown for “Participant List” in the image above.

While the pictures above are for the Windows version of Mikogo, the feature menu can also be opened on Linux and Mac computers. You just have to right-click the icon on a Linux computer, and for a Mac computer you can use a Ctrl-click or tap your touchpad with two fingers. The menu on a Linux computer is shown below:

Recently Version 4 of our second desktop sharing product, BeamYourScreen, was tested by Online Meeting Tools Review, a vendor-independent reviewer of web conferencing and webinar solutions. A total of 35 different software tools were included in the assessment and we are pleased to announce that our Version 4 software was ranked as the third highest web conferencing solution in the market, placing it above the likes of WebEx, Fuze Meeting and Teamviewer.

Now, while it was the BeamYourScreen product that was directly put to the test by Online Meeting Tools Review, the product and included features within BeamYourScreen Version 4 are identical to that of Mikogo Version 4. So we consider this a huge pat on the back for Mikogo as well!

Online Meeting Tools Review has been testing a wide range of different web conferencing solutions for years with the aim of providing a quick overview of the leading solutions to assist businesses in selecting the most appropriate solution for their needs. The result has been a continuous evaluation of some of the biggest web conferencing solutions available today.

If you take a look at their recent evaluation of 35 web conferencing solutions, you will see BeamYourScreen listed in 3rd place. Here is a snippet of the statement that Online Meeting Tools Review released regarding Version 4:

“The developers once again have done a great job in actually improving the software. Version 4 of BeamYourScreen comes in an all new layout which is nice and lean and makes for intuitive usage.”

As mentioned above, it was the BeamYourScreen product that Online Meeting Tools Review evaluated and not Mikogo. However the only differences between the two Version 4 products, BeamYourScreen and Mikogo, are the brand names and the colors used in the software interface. Other than that, the underlying technology is the same, the features are the same, the processes of starting/joining a session are the same, system requirements are the same, etc.

So in other words, this is a great compliment from Online Meeting Tools Review for both Mikogo Version 4 and BeamYourScreen Version 4!

Last week we announced the launch of the new Mikogo Shop, where you can select and buy business licenses. While there are some feature differences between the business licenses, the core feature that all Mikogo business licenses share in common is the fact that they can be used for commercial purposes, as we outlined in our original introduction of the freemium model. The free version, on the other hand, is designed for private use.

We will soon implement our freemium model by displaying a “Free Version notification” within the software interface. This will start as of Monday 17th October and registered users who use Mikogo without a business license (i.e. a free private user) will see the notification within their Mikogo software interface. Consequently this week is a perfect opportunity to visit our new shop and pick up a license for your next Mikogo business meeting.

Read on below for more details about the implementation of the Mikogo freemium model.

The Free Version Notification

So what is this notification that we speak of? To distinguish between using Mikogo for private use and commercial use, our freemium model centers around the software displaying a short message within the Mikogo panel. You can see this notification in the image to the right.

However this notification is not a fixed part of the software. It will disappear from the software for anyone who has a business license. A business user will enter their account details under “Account Information” and the software will recognize that they have a Mikogo license, and will automatically remove the notification.

Please note that those who use Mikogo without a registered account will see the Free Version notification. This is because the software distinguishes between business and private users based on their registered account details and whether they have or have not activated a business license in MyAccount.

What about Participants?

As we mentioned in our Thank You blog post, participants do not need a business license. They can join sessions for free. That means the Free Version notification will only appear in the software of free private users as well as their participants.
Those who have a business license will not see the notification, and nor will their participants.

Picking Up Your Mikogo Business License

You can visit the Mikogo Shop at any time to buy your license. Then login to MyAccount, go to “License Key Activation”, and enter the license key you received with your business license. That’s it!

Next time when you use the Mikogo software, enter your user details under Account Information and the software will recognize you as a business user and will remove the Free Version notification for you.

For further details on activating your license and getting started with the Mikogo software as a business user, please read this short guide.

We have just released the new Mikogo Shop which will serve as the website area where you can browse the different licenses and buy the one that suits your business needs. As mentioned in our previous blog post about the freemium model, we thought long and hard about how to offer licenses for commercial use that would support a variety of desktop sharing uses. As you can see on the Mikogo Shop, we have provided several options to cater for the different needs of the many Mikogo users. Please read this blog post below for further insight into the new Mikogo licenses.

Three Different Versions

The first thing that you will notice is that there are three versions of Mikogo, all of which are intended for businesses to use the software for commercial use:

Professional Version: this license is designed in mind of those who use Mikogo more frequently and need a greater range of features. If you use Mikogo for several different desktop sharing needs (e.g. online presentations, meetings, support, training, etc.) this license is for you as it includes 25 participants for larger group collaboration and comes with all the trimmings and features of Mikogo.

Support Version: Mikogo is used for both meetings and support. Hence we created a license tailored for 1-to-1 remote support sessions. We removed several of the features that IT technicians do not need for support cases to create a cleaner remote desktop solution.

Light Version: if you are primarily after a simple desktop sharing solution for presentations and meetings with a few added features, then this will suit you to a tee.

Four Different Licenses Types

Next you will notice that there are four license options: Lifetime License, Yearly Subscription, Monthly Subscription and the Day Pass. All licenses are per-user. The day pass has been introduced after multiple requests by Mikogo users when we first introduced the freemium model. However there is a substantial portion of Mikogo users who use the software more frequently so we are offering longer-term licenses for their needs.
For Lifetime licenses, we will ensure that the Mikogo system and servers will be available for a period of at least 10 years from the date of purchase and we will make all reasonable efforts after that period to ensure availability. Furthermore, the Lifetime license does not include major updates (e.g. from Version 4 to Version 5), but it includes minor updates and bug fixes (e.g. from version 4.0 to version 4.1). On the other hand, the leasing licenses include both minor and major updates.

How do these different licenses and versions work?

It’s very important to remember that there is still only one download for the Mikogo software. When you download the Mikogo software, you will automatically receive the free version of the software – which is available for non-commercial use. After you have selected your license version and type and purchased a license, you can proceed to MyAccount and activate it under “License Key Activation”. Enter your License key there and click “Activate”.
When you next open your Mikogo software, sign into “Account Information” using your registered email address and password. Your software will automatically adapt depending on which license version and type that you purchased. For example, if you bought a subscription of the support version the non-support features (e.g. pause transmission, recording, etc.) will disappear from the software.

We hope the above explanations regarding the different license versions, license types and how to activate your license are clear.

Please visit the new Mikogo Shop and browse the page to select the best license for your business.

Last month you would have read our blog post and message about our plans to introduce a Freemium model in the near future. From that we received an overwhelming number of great comments, facebook wall posts, tweets, etc – firstly, thank you for all your comments, support and feedback!

We took our time to go over everything, taking into consideration your comments and suggestions. Before we introduce the freemium model, we would like to take a moment to address your questions by sharing our thoughts and plans with you and providing more in-depth info. We have answered your questions below and hope you enjoy reading the blog post!

Answering your Freemium Questions

Everyone’s comments were a great way for us to hear what everyone thinks and we have taken these into consideration when going over the freemium model to find ways that will best suit the Mikogo users. Here are the main topics that were raised and our current plans:

Day Passes – several people wrote that they only use Mikogo once a month (or “once in a blue moon”) and wanted a per-use option rather than a monthly fee. We plan to offer a “Day Pass” which people can purchase and will give them access to Mikogo for commercial purposes for 24 hours. Ideal for people who occasionally use Mikogo for business meetings.

Different License Durations –on top of the day passes, we will offer options to buy monthly, yearly or lifetime licenses. For example, if you are not sure that you want to immediately get a yearly license, you can buy a monthly license and then decide which license type is most appropriate for you.

Two Options for Business Users – while there will be a free version for private use, we will also provide two versions for business users: the first is a light version, while the second is a professional version which includes the full Mikogo feature set. We will offer the light version, which includes the core desktop sharing features for meetings, as the most cost-effective way to start using Mikogo for commercial use.

Free for Participants – a few people thought that the session organizer and the participants all have to pay for a license. This is not the case – only the organizer will be required to have a license when using Mikogo for commercial purposes. Participants can join for free.

Version 3 Licenses – some people expressed that they want to stick with Mikogo Version 3. We are moving strongly towards Version 4, as it opens many development doors for our future, however we will continue to provide BeamYourScreen Version 3, which will be the exact same as Mikogo Version 3. On top of getting the familiar Mikogo Version 3 feature set and interface, BeamYourScreen Version 3 also includes the added bonus of the HTML Viewer. Licenses will be made available for people so they can use BeamYourScreen Version 3 for commercial use.

Business User Benefits – while Mikogo business users will be able to use the software for commercial purposes, in addition to this they will also be able to customize the software with their choice of images. For example, you can add your company logo into the Mikogo software interface.

Non-Profit Use of Mikogo – we understand that there are several charities and non-profit organizations using Mikogo. We will offer discounts to such entities and encourage these users to approach us when we launch the freemium model.

The Mikogo software is now used in over 180 countries for a great variety of desktop sharing uses. We have taken some time considering the different needs and use cases of the Mikogo users when shaping our freemium model. We hope you enjoy reading the above topics and our responses and hope that the upcoming freemium model will suit your continued use of Mikogo!

Kind regards,

Mark and Erik

In general, when you invite a participant to join a Mikogo session, you no doubt direct them to our Join Session page, get them to enter the session ID and join your session. However if you prefer, it is in fact possible for your participants to go straight to your own website and join from there. So how does this work?
We have created a way for you to integrate the session login form directly into your website. This is now available with Version 4.

How do I Integrate the Session Login?

If you visit our Documents page you will find a “Session Login Integration Guide“. This guide contains the HTML code that you will need to copy and paste into your website. Once you have done this, the session login will appear on your website, as shown below, with areas for the participant to enter the session ID and name. And they can select to join the session with the standard connection method or with the HTML Viewer.

Session Login

Session ID:

Name:

Connection Method:

<input type="radio"id="cm" name="cm" value="1" checked="checked">Standard

<input type="radio"id="cm" name="cm" value="2" >HTML

Powered by Mikogo

What are the Benefits of this?

There are a couple of benefits of integrating the session login into your website:

Firstly, you might find it easier to direct your participants to your own website, which they could already be familiar with, rather than going to go.mikogo.com. Some Mikogo users have requested this integration of the session login because they wanted a professional way of getting clients to join their sessions from their company website.

Customization – this is probably the greatest benefit. Because you have direct access to the HTML code of the session login in your own website, there are several ways in which you can customize the session login:

You can translate all the texts into your own language. For example, you can change the “Join Session” button text into “Participar” – if you have a Spanish website.

You can change the color scheme of the session login so it better fits your website and corporate identity.

Finally, you can remove one of the Connection Method options (Standard or HTML) so you only offer your participants one way to join. This is ideal, for example, when you want your participants to join an online presentation and only want them to join from the HTML viewer. You can then remove the standard connection method from your website session login.

Download the Session Integration Guide and feel free to use the code to add the Mikogo Session Login to your website.
Once you have integrated the session login on your website, feel free to leave a comment below and share a link to your website. We would love to, and I’m sure other Mikogo users would too, see your session login pages especially if you have customized it a bit to suit your website and corporate look.

We’ve been stress testing both the latest version of Mikogo, Version 4.3, and the previous version, Version 4.2. From this we can confidently say that Version 4.3 brings with it greater performance and stability in comparison to Version 4.2. On top of that, we have also fixed several bugs within the software which you can read about on our release notes page.

Due to the significant improvement in performance and stability of Version 4.3 over the previous Mikogo release, we are implementing a mandatory upgrade today. Please read on for further details.

Upgrading to Version 4.3

When you next open your Mikogo Version 4 software (if you’re still using Version 4.2), you will see a notification window as shown in the image below:

Please click “OK” to accept the upgrade. As this is a mandatory upgrade, selecting “Cancel” will close the software. Selecting “OK” will take you to the Mikogo download page which corresponds to the computer you’re using (Windows, Mac or Linux). You can then click on the “Download” button to receive the new software. This is the process for upgrading to Version 4.3 on a Windows, Mac or Linux computer. We suggest you also remove the previous version of Mikogo from your computer.

If you encounter any issues with this upgrade and do not get taken to the download page as by design, you can also do the following – remove the current version of Mikogo from your computer. Then click the following link to proceed to the Mikogo website and download the new 4.3 software.

If you have any problems with the upgrade process, please inform us on our Forum.

Four years ago, Mikogo was created from an idea by our company, BeamYourScreen which since 2004 has developed and operated business desktop sharing solutions. Numerous private individuals approached our company asking for a free online meeting tool for personal use. None of the big corporations, such as WebEx, were offering free solutions for personal use and we came to strongly believe that the private user was missing out. With this in mind, we decided to create Mikogo, a free desktop sharing tool for private users.
What started as an idea in 2007 has since developed into a service soon to reach 1 million registered users in 180 countries worldwide. We are thrilled at how many people support our work and enjoy our software – thank you!

Today we bring you an important message about how together we will sustain Mikogo as a high-quality desktop sharing program. We will soon introduce a freemium model to Mikogo. This is a big step for us and we ask that you please read the following blog post.

How Can We Sustain Mikogo?

Since releasing Mikogo as a free tool in 2007, we put our own money into Mikogo, including developing the product, building and maintaining the infrastructure, and supporting the community in the best possible way. Moreover, neither BeamYourScreen nor Mikogo are venture capital backed.

At first this was no problem. But over time as more users found us, we were overwhelmed with the large increase in sessions. For a technology company, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing our product being adopted and used regularly by so many people. This is the best proof that we created something meaningful and beneficial, and we are very proud to see our work appreciated.

On the flipside, this massive growth has led to substantial increases in our expenses. Financially speaking, maintaining and developing Mikogo has become a stretch especially since we are still financing Mikogo with our own money. We look forward to bringing you further new features while maintaining the Mikogo infrastructure, but to make this possible we need to consider our future expenses. So how are we going to cover these costs?

Introducing the Freemium Model

Over time, we learned that besides private users a number of businesses were using Mikogo. We talked to these business users and the value of Mikogo to them was clear – companies can significantly reduce their travel expenses while increasing productivity.

So after many long meetings, research, testing alternative revenue options, and of course a lot of careful consideration, we concluded that the best way to cover our increasing costs while continuing to provide and develop Mikogo would be to ask those who benefit the most from Mikogo to support us in sustaining our product by giving a contribution back – something that in the long-term will benefit the Mikogo Community as a whole.

We have hence decided to implement a freemium model, especially because this means we do not lose sight of our initial goal and mission – to provide a free desktop sharing tool for private use. We set out to address this need and we would like to continue this.

Based on the above, this is how we envision the Mikogo freemium model:

The Mikogo software will remain free for private use – the software can be downloaded and used without any costs. There is no need to neither register an account nor provide personal details.

Commercial use of Mikogo – So we can sustain our business and our Mikogo product we will offer a paid version for businesses, which allows them to use Mikogo for commercial use and provides them with additional business benefits such as logo branding and customization.

Why the Freemium Model?

The freemium model was not our first idea. When we realized that we could not sustain the growing usage of the software by ourselves forever, we started thinking about ways to finance Mikogo. At one point, we asked people to donate. Wikipedia, for example, successfully did this but unfortunately it did not work for us. Next we thought about implementing an ad supported model. However, we did not like the idea of having ads displayed neither on our website nor in the software. We did not want Mikogo to become another piece of adware.

Besides the issue of covering costs, there is another important aspect why the freemium model is the right way to go. As we continue to develop Mikogo, improve the software and server infrastructure, add advanced features, and respond to feature requests from users, we foresee Mikogo becoming a very powerful online collaboration tool. By introducing a freemium model, we can place more resources behind our product and speed up development. We believe in our product and are not sales or marketing driven. WebEx, for example, spends tons of money on advertising which is financed by their customer sales. We focus rather on product development and infrastructure and this is where the bulk of our costs come from. This enables us to offer our freemium licenses at a very affordable price. For example, the price of a Mikogo license starts at less than $13/month.

A freemium model will be a step in the right direction for all those associated with Mikogo. As we receive a small amount for providing Mikogo to businesses, we can sustain our product while focusing on future development. It should be a very exciting time ahead for all of us as we have some really cool and innovative plans on our development road-map for the Mikogo users!

When Will the Freemium Model Start?

We are still working on some behind-the-scenes tasks to get all of this setup. We just wanted to post this today to keep you all in the loop.

Free Business Licenses for Translators

On a final note, over the last couple of years we’ve received a lot of support from people who volunteered to translate the Mikogo software and website – take a look at our Hall of Fame. We appreciate this and would like to reward our translators with a Mikogo license that they can use for commercial use. There will be more details specifically about this in an upcoming blog post – please look out for that.

Finally we thank you all for your support and understanding as we take this big step. You have all helped us in one way or the other: by using Mikogo, by giving us feedback on both good and not so good things, and by sharing Mikogo with the world. Some have put their heart into Mikogo and helped translate the software into many languages – 35 to be more precise. Some of you have created videos or written blog posts about Mikogo. We are grateful for this outstanding support and we look forward to continuing to provide a high-quality free desktop sharing program for many years to come!

Kind Regards,

Mark and Erik

We have released an update, Version 4.3, for the Mikogo Mac software. This update now provides full compatibility with Mac OS X Lion – the most recent and advanced operating system released by Apple. The new Mikogo Version 4.3 software for Mac is now available for download from our website.

According to Apple, millions of people have already updated to Mac OS X Lion for the Mac computers. Making Mikogo compatible with Lion 10.7 has now opened the door for these Mac users to download and use the new native Mikogo Mac software for their online meetings and web presentations. Here is a statement from Mark Zondler which is a snippet from today’s press release:

“An advantage of Mikogo is that it is a true cross-platform desktop sharing tool, with native software clients for Windows, Mac and Linux,” says Mark Zondler, Co-Creator of Mikogo. “So when Apple released Lion it was important for us to react immediately and our response is the release of our latest Mac software. This release will benefit those who start online meetings on a Mac computer with Lion 10.7, but furthermore it will help any Mikogo user, regardless of which type of computer they use, when they invite participants who are using Lion 10.7.”

Download and Upgrade to Version 4.3

If you are already a user of the previous version of Mikogo 4, you will notice an update notification when you next open Mikogo on your Mac. You can then choose to get the upgrade which will open a browser window and take you to the Mac Download page. Now follow these steps:

Download the new version 4.3 from the Mac Download page by clicking on the “Free Download” button.

Drag & drop the downloaded mikogo.dmg file to your Applications folder.

Your Mac will ask you if you want to replace the previous version of the file. Click on the “Replace” button to accept this – the new .dmg file will then be copied to your applications and the old file will be replaced.

On the other hand, if you have not yet started using Version 4 but you wish to start using Version 4.3, then you can simply go to the Mac Download page and click on the “Free Download” button. Please follow the three steps on the Mac Download page to download the program and get a session started.

We hope you enjoy using Mikogo 4.3 with Mac OS X Lion!

Due to scheduled maintenance by our data center, next Tuesday, 9th August, both Mikogo Version 4 and Version 3 will be unavailable and you will not be able to start or join sessions. This will take place at 11pm CET (Central European Time), which is 2pm PST and 5pm EST. The downtime is expected to last 4 hours.

Unfortunately this is out of our control. The reason for this downtime is because our server data center has informed us that they will shut down for this period. Consequently we cannot avoid this.

During the scheduled maintenance downtime you will not be able to start or join sessions, nor will you be able to register for an account, reset your password or access MyAccount. We understand that this is an inconvenience for Mikogo users, especially those of you located in Pacific Standard Time (PST) as this scheduled maintenance will take place during the middle of the day.

As mentioned above, our data center is undergoing regular maintenance and they warned us that they will be shut down for this period. We tried and checked all options to avoid this but unfortunately it is unavoidable. The data center will shut down the power to their systems for these few hours in order to carry out the maintenance. They will be working on the main distribution and hence a shutdown is required in order to protect the technicians involved.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the maintenance of our data center, which is necessary to ensure their operational reliability.

Thank you for your understanding.

We have just released the new MyAccount for Mikogo! This is available on all the Mikogo websites which means it’s available in 8 languages. For example if you wish to access MyAccount in Spanish, please go to www.mikogo.es and click on “Mi Cuenta” in the menu bar at the top of the Mikogo homepage.
There are several options and areas available in MyAccount which we’ll go into detail for you below in this blog post.

When you arrive on the MyAccount page, you will need to enter your username (which is your registered email address e.g. john.smith@gmail.com) and your password.
Note: If you have forgotten your password you can first reset it here.

After logging in, you will find 4 areas listed in a vertical menu on the left:

Session Statistics

Change Password

Contact Information

Features Settings

Session Statistics

The first thing you’ll see when you login to MyAccount is the Session Statistics page. As you can see in the screenshot below this provides you with a record of all your sessions.

(Click above to view full-size image)

Most of the columns are quite self-explanatory, however you might wonder what the “P” is in the last column. This stands for “Participants”. By clicking on one of the numbers in that column, you will receive a pop up with the details of the participants who joined that specific session, as you can see here:

(Click above to view full-size image)

Change Password

The next section is for changing your password. Here you can select a custom password (which is a change since Mikogo Version 3). You are also able to select a custom password by using the new Reset Password function.

Contact Information

Here you can enter your own details. This will assist us and you if there are times that we need to reach out to you, such as when you’re trying to contact us for support.

Feature Settings

This is not quite ready as you will notice when you click on it in your MyAccount. Later when this is available, it will offer customization options for the Mikogo software, for example, adding a company logo into the Mikogo interface.

So that is a quick run-down of the new MyAccount. As this is the first day of release, we would love to hear your initial impressions, so here are a few feedback questions:

Overall what do you think of MyAccount?

What is your first impression of the Session Statistics overview, which is the main page and feature of MyAccount?

Are there additional features, such as sorting and search, that you would like to see implemented?

What about the change of password area? Do you think it’s necessary to apply a minimum requirement for the password character length? Or to force users to include a mix of letters and numbers?

Finally, what else would you expect to see in MyAccount?

Please post your ideas and requests by leaving a comment below – thanks!

Today we implemented a change in Version 4 to facilitate remote support sessions, in particular for cases when you want to start a session and directly view and control the remote computer, instead of first presenting your own screen.

This feature has always been available in Version 4, however previously you needed to configure this in the Profile Manager. Now when you open your Mikogo software you can select to view and control the remote computer without using the Profile Manager.

As a non-registered user, when you start your Mikogo software, you will see the “Standard Profile” within a drop-down menu above the Start Session button:

If you simply click Start Session now, you will start a standard session with is configured to present your screen. So when a participant joins your session, they will see your screen.
However by clicking on this drop-down menu you will be able to select “Support”:

Select “Support” and then click on the Start Session button. The session will not instantly start. Instead a Viewing Direction drawer will open:

Select “View & Control” and click OK. Your session will start and you’ll receive the Participant List and the Session ID. When your participant joins the session you will instantly be able to see their screen and remotely control their keyboard and mouse.

So this change allows you to access the Initial Viewing Direction settings directly as you start a session, similar to what was available in Version 3 – ideal for remote support sessions.

And this change is available on all platforms – Windows, Mac and Linux.

Important Feedback Questions

What do you think of this change? Does this make your support sessions easier? Or does it make starting a session more complicated because you now have a choice (choosing between the Standard and the Support profiles) before you start a session?
It would be great to hear your feedback and thoughts on this – so please leave your comments below!

As a registered user, you can of course still use the Profile Manager to configure even more profiles with greater customization than only the Viewing Direction settings. For example, within the Profile Manager you can customize the speed/picture quality, application selection settings, which features you want or don’t want in the session, and more. For further details, please take a look at this blog post.

And please let us know what you think about today’s change – Thanks!

For those of you who have still been using Version 3 since we released Version 4 last week, you may have noticed that there hasn’t yet been a forced upgrade. This was because we wanted to notify everyone first in order to give notice and allow for you to prepare for Version 4.
Today we initiated the update process within Mikogo Version 3. As a session organizer, the next time you run the Mikogo Version 3 software, you will receive an update notification. Read on for more details.

Upgrading to Version 4 for Windows

Within the Windows software there is an auto-updater. The next time you start your Version 3 software (as an organizer not as a participant), you will see the following notification:

Click yes to accept the upgrade. Mikogo will then upgrade your software to Version 4 and the following download bar will appear.

Upon completion, you will then have the Version 4 software on your computer and the Mikogo Version 4 panel will appear on your desktop:

From now on when you run your Mikogo software, Version 4 will start with the above panel, and no longer Version 3.

Upgrading to Version 4 for Mac

When Mac users next run the software they will also be presented with an upgrade notification, similar to that seen by the Windows users. Upon accepting the upgrade, Mac users will be directed to the Mac download page on our website and are advised to replace the Mikogo application manually. Mac users should remove Version 3 from their computers and download Version 4 by following the steps on our download page.

Participants Joining your New Version 4 Sessions

After you have upgraded to Version 4 and you are ready to start sessions with the new software, it is very important that you direct your participants to go.mikogo.com and not the old version 3 join session page. The new page, go.mikogo.com, is linked to from the “Join Session” buttons on our homepage and website.

Again this is NOT a forced update. You can refuse the upgrade or accept it. However this step is necessary as we move more and more towards solely supporting Version 4, and we suggest you accept the upgrader sooner rather than later.

Thanks!
