Do you use Mikogo for remote support? Then you will love what we have in store for you below in this post!
Currently when you start a Mikogo session and your client joins, the client will view your screen. This is perfect and easy for meetings and presentations. But what about remote support sessions we hear you ask? We have released a “Support” profile in the Mikogo software – designed with IT support technicians in mind, the software allows you to start a Mikogo session and when your client joins the session, you will instantly see and control their computer. No need to switch presenter or send a remote control request.
Read on below for how you can use the Support profile for your next Mikogo session.

How Can I Start a “Support” Session?

Starting a Mikogo session with the new Support profile is as easy as starting a standard session. We’ll walk you through this with the following steps:

1. Select “Support”
Open the Start Session drawer, however before clicking the Start Session button, click on the drop-down menu. Select “Support”.

2. Select the Viewing Direction setting
After clicking the “Start Session” button you will be presented with 3 options as shown in the screenshot. Select “View & Control” to instantly view and control the client’s computer when they join your session.

3. Start the Support session
After clicking OK your session will start and you will be presented with a participant list which appears as shown in the screenshot below. Note that there is no presenter yet because your client will be the presenter and is yet to join.

4. Invite your client to the session
Unless they already have Mikogo downloaded on their computer, your client will need to go to go.mikogo.com, enter the Session ID along with their name and click “Join Session”. Please note that they will need to join the session with the Connection Program, not the HTML Viewer.

Your client can then run the Mikogo software which will add them to your support session. At this point the client will be presented with the “Switch Presenter Request”. This is intentional and informs the client of their actions for security reasons – always important for remote support sessions. Please ask your client to click “Yes”.

That’s it!

Your client has joined your “Support” session and you can now see and view their screen.

You will see the “Remote Keyboard Combinations” drawer appears in your Mikogo panel giving you extra functionality for your support session.

A little more detail about the Support profile

We have released the support profile for ALL users and customers.

It is available in Mikogo versions 4.3 and greater including the latest Mikogo release, 4.6.120813.

When starting a session with the Support profile, the wallpaper will temporarily disappear on the client’s computer and will reappear after the end of the session. Removing the wallpaper speeds up the screen sharing transmission.

The Picture Quality is set to level 2. This means the picture quality is not as crystal clear as in the standard Mikogo presentation mode, but again it speeds up the screen sharing.

Create Your Own Support or Other Profiles

This release now means you have the “Standard Profile” and the “Support” profile by default for online meetings and remote support respectively. But what about other Mikogo use cases such as teaching, training, and presentations? If you would like to build your own profiles with different settings and features, you can do so with the Profile Manager. This is an account-based feature which you can gain with a registered account – please register a Mikogo account to access the Profile Manager.

Feedback…

What do you think? Does this make your support sessions easier for you and your clients? What about other profiles? Have your created other profiles for your own Mikogo use cases? Would you like to see other profiles added to Mikogo by default?

Please leave your feedback in the comments below – thanks!

It’s here! The new HTML Viewer with lightning fast screen sharing that would make even Usain Bolt blush! The HTML Viewer is our award-winning technology and an alternative login option for participants joining online meetings, without the need for any downloads. Today’s new update utilizes the much-talked about HTML5 technology enabling even smoother and faster screen sharing than previously, and includes new features.

The new features in this week’s release include increased performance and speed of screen sharing, participant pointer, zoom functionality, screen auto-fit, and multi-lingual interface. Previously in the HTML Viewer, participants could join online meetings from their computers simply from a standard web browser without downloading additional software. Likewise for the new HTML Viewer – users can join from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection. 100% browser-based without the need for downloading executables. And no need for Flash, ActiveX nor Java.

Why HTML5 for Online Meetings? An Interview with Mikogo Development

A talk with any developer will reveal just how integral HTML5 is becoming in the web developing world. Speaking specifically with Mikogo’s Product Development Manager, Matthias Litz, can shed light on the strengths of the HTML Viewer and just how important HTML5 was for the new release.

Matthias Litz
Product Development

Q: What do you think this new HTML Viewer will bring to the table that sets itself apart from other products in the market?
Matthias Litz: The advantage over other products is that it is purely web browser-based. It enables you to instantly attend online meetings without any prior preparations, such as downloading software or installing a browser plug in. This is a great advantage for businesses when inviting their clients, who have never used Mikogo, into online meetings.

Q: How do you think the new HTML Viewer enhances the user experience?
ML: The new HTML Viewer has been optimized to reach a noticeably higher display performance. Technically speaking, the new HTML Viewer can display the presenter’s screen data at a higher frame rate. This reduces time lags during the screen demonstration, leading to a smoother screen flow on the viewer’s end and significantly enhancing the user experience. We have also included new features from the desktop version of Mikogo.

Q. Which features specifically from the desktop software are now included?
ML: “Increased Display Performance” – Users of the new HTML Viewer will gain from a much smoother screen flow through higher frame rates.
“Auto-Fit-To-Window” – In the case when the presenter shares a different screen resolution and size than what the viewer’s device has, the new HTML Viewer will automatically scale the display size down or up to best fit the viewer’s browser window.
“Zooming in/out” – The viewer can use zoom to enlarge or reduce the display range to their personal need.
“Participant Pointer” – Viewers are able to interact with the meeting presenter by clicking into the presenter’s screen.
“Multi-Lingual” – the HTML Viewer is now available in English, German and French.

Q: How important was customer feedback when making changes to software like this?
ML: Feedback has been essential for us because it allows us to optimize our service to the user’s needs. Since we first launched the HTML Viewer in 2011 we have received a lot of feedback pointing out that it was a great invention and suggesting ways we can enhance the feature, such as which features to include from the Mikogo desktop version. This helped shape our product road map and bring the HTML Viewer to the release we have today.

Q: How does desktop sharing with the HTML Viewer work without Java, Flash, or ActiveX?
ML: The presenter’s screen can be displayed on the viewer’s end without the need for them to run additional software. We have designed our service to deliver screen data in a secure and HTML compatible format which is supported by the high majority of today’s web browsers across all platforms including mobile devices – and therefore no need for additional plug-ins or software.

Q: Knowing that you are able to view content coded in HTML5 on most mobile devices (iPhone, Blackberry, Android etc.), do you think that was a major factor in deciding to use this platform for Mikogo?
ML: No, it was definitely not a major factor at that time. In general, the screen size of most smart phones do not provide an optimal viewing experience when the presenter uses a computer with a regular screen size (e.g. 14 inches or greater). Although our new feature (Auto-Fit-To-Window) can automatically adapt the display size for users with a smaller screen resolution, I consider HTML5 support for mobile devices as a bonus and a nice feature for those who will use their smart phones while traveling and can’t get to a desktop computer.

On the other hand, the new HTML Viewer is great for online meetings between two computers where the participant does not want to download any software – that’s still its strongest advantage. We also see a great potential for Mikogo in the market of tablet PCs, such as the iPad, due to size of the tablet screens. When such devices are making their way into modern business life, we aim to support, not only the ability to view a screen presentation, but also to enable screen sharing for mobile devices.

The New HTML Viewer Online

The new HTML Viewer is now available for your next online meeting! If you’re looking for a 100% browser-based experience the next time you join a Mikogo meeting, you can do so by joining from go.mikogo.com and select “HTML Viewer” as the “Connection Method”.

Is Mikogo feeling unwell? Depressed or unhappy? No! On the contrary – we’re very pleased with our latest software release and website update!
We have just released Mikogo Version 4.5 which, along with some small bug fixes, now has a new-look blue-green color scheme implemented into the software user interface. You will have also noticed that our website has undergone a blue green update to reflect our corporate colors and identity.

The New Blue Green Look

Mikogo is fast becoming the popular and chosen go-to product for web conferencing and online meetings for many businesses around the world. Towards the end of last year our software was ranked as the third highest in the web conferencing market, above the likes of WebEx. We then recently decided to implement our corporate BeamYourScreen colors into Mikogo. Now our business users have access to an online meeting product which is not only easy to use but also, in our opinion, communicates a more professional impression to your clients and colleagues.

Upgrading to the Blue Green Software

The new Version 4.5 software is now available from our download pages. While the mikogo-starter.exe program (for Windows users) will allow you to install the latest version without first removing any previous installation of Version 4 on your PC it would be best for Mac and Linux users to first remove your current installation of Mikogo and then download/install Version 4.5.
Also note that this upgrade is not mandatory at this point in time and if you do upgrade to Version 4.5 however a participant in your next online meeting still uses Version 4.3, there will be no problems – Versions 4.3 and 4.5 are compatible together.

Final note: what do you think about the new-look software and website? Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

We’ve been stress testing both the latest version of Mikogo, Version 4.3, and the previous version, Version 4.2. From this we can confidently say that Version 4.3 brings with it greater performance and stability in comparison to Version 4.2. On top of that, we have also fixed several bugs within the software which you can read about on our release notes page.

Due to the significant improvement in performance and stability of Version 4.3 over the previous Mikogo release, we are implementing a mandatory upgrade today. Please read on for further details.

Upgrading to Version 4.3

When you next open your Mikogo Version 4 software (if you’re still using Version 4.2), you will see a notification window as shown in the image below:

Please click “OK” to accept the upgrade. As this is a mandatory upgrade, selecting “Cancel” will close the software. Selecting “OK” will take you to the Mikogo download page which corresponds to the computer you’re using (Windows, Mac or Linux). You can then click on the “Download” button to receive the new software. This is the process for upgrading to Version 4.3 on a Windows, Mac or Linux computer. We suggest you also remove the previous version of Mikogo from your computer.

If you encounter any issues with this upgrade and do not get taken to the download page as by design, you can also do the following – remove the current version of Mikogo from your computer. Then click the following link to proceed to the Mikogo website and download the new 4.3 software.

If you have any problems with the upgrade process, please inform us on our Forum.

We’re currently in the middle of a new Mikogo version (watch out! – It’s got some great new features ) and we’re interested in hearing ideas and suggestions from the experienced Mikogo Community on what we could do to facilitate sharing session information. As you know, we currently have the Mikogo Scheduler which allows you to send email invitations with the required information to your participants. But if you could, would you improve this? Or would you use a completely new and different method?

Take a moment to think about the times when you’re organizing a session and need to communicate the session ID and details to the participants – basically you can boil it down to two situations:

Spontaneous Ad-Hoc Session – you’re just about to start an ad-hoc web conference and need participants to join in the next 5 min.

Scheduled Future Session – you’ve planned ahead and saved the session ID along with selecting the date and time.

Either way, you need to communicate the session information to your participants in a way that is easy and practical for both parties. And during these times when you’re about to organize a session, especially an ad-hoc session, perhaps you had also thought of new ways to invite participants.

How do you do it? How would you improve it? Did you ever find yourself in a situation where you thought, “Oh, this would be so much easier if Mikogo could…….!

Well, it’s that missing ….. at the end of the last sentence that we would really like to hear about from everyone.

Feel free to share your ideas in the comments below. Doesn’t matter how crazy or out-there the ideas might be – we want to hear them!

Thanks a lot

In order to reflect the new look website, we are going to release a new version of the Mikogo software which will include the new Mikogo logo and icons. Consequently we’ve been working on the design of some new system tray Mikogo icons, which you can see below.

Before having the new icons designed, we had to consider a few factors:

Visibility – icons need to be seen by the users, especially if it is their first time using our software.

Ease-of-use – we wanted to stick with an icon as it is easy to communicate and people are used to this now.

New Mikogo Logo and Website – icons should reflect the colors and theme of the new look website.

With this in mind, we introduce to you the new Mikogo icons:

Application icon:

Tray icons:

So what does everyone think? Please leave your comments and feedback below in the comments.
And if you have any suggestions for how we could improve the icons before we release the software, please be sure to leave your comment – we would be very interested to read your suggestions for alternative icons.

Thanks!

Good news – today we have released the remote control feature for Mac users! This allows you to start a meeting from a Mac or PC, and then assist others via remote support, regardless of whether they join your meeting from a Mac or PC. Now you can use Mikogo as a cross-platform tool for not only web conferences and online meetings but also remote support, and you won’t pay a cent.

Mikogo Releases Cross-Platform Remote Support Software
Mannheim, GERMANY April 15, 2009 – Mikogo has announced the release of the new remote control feature for its Mac Beta version, equipping the free cross-platform web conference software with a valuable remote support function. The news comes shortly after the successful release of Mikogo’s first Mac Beta version a month ago, and complements Mikogo’s version for PC computers.

Both Mikogo’s PC and Mac versions provide an easy-to-use web conferencing solution that allows any private user or company to organize an online meeting with up to 10 participants. Following today’s release, Mikogo users have a multi-purpose cross-platform application for online meetings as well as remote support, and all at no cost.

“Since last month’s Beta version, Mac users have been picking up our software for online meetings, web conferencing and screen sharing,” explains Erik Boos, Co-Founder of Mikogo. “Now with the new remote control feature, companies have an all-in-one software application that allows them to not only make Web presentations and conferences but also assist clients via remote support.”

Are you building an impressive collection of portable software tools that require no installation? Now you can add the latest version of Mikogo’s portable version to your collection and start meetings directly from your USB stick.

The benefit of this is that you can carry your Mikogo software on your USB drive and start meetings from your work computer and later start meetings from home or other computers. No need to install the software.

How to get the portable version:

Simply download it and save it to your USB drive. You’ll then have “Mikogo-Portable” with the icon on your portable stick. Double-click on it, Mikogo will instantly start and the little icon will appear in your system tray. Click on the icon, select “Start Meeting” and enter your user details. Click OK, and the meeting will begin – Simple!

And now you can share any content on your screen (i.e. your desktop, word documents, spreadsheets, slides, pictures, web pages, etc…) with your meeting participants.

Also, your user details (username & password) will be saved so there is no need to re-enter your details when you start a meeting from another computer. Next time you open your USB drive, open Mikogo, and select “Start Meeting”, the meeting will simply begin.

Enjoy!

In this blog post we’d like to provide a little insight for the Mikogo Community on how to use the Mikogo Meeting Scheduler, and how to organize and get the best from your free online meetings.

Opening the Scheduler
The first thing to note, is that you can open your Scheduler before you start a meeting or during a meeting. Click on the M icon in the system tray and select “Scheduler”:

The Scheduler then opens, and in this case you can see that I have already scheduled 2 meetings:
(Click on image to enlarge and view it)

To Start a Scheduled Meeting
In order for a scheduled meeting to start, you have to open your Scheduler and click “Start”. Meetings will not begin automatically simply because the scheduled time and date has been reached – this is for security reasons.
To start a scheduled meeting, click on the meeting so it is highlighted in blue and then click “Start”.

The meeting will begin and you will receive the Meeting Info window containing the exact same ID as assigned in the Scheduler i.e. 524-644-209

Once you have started the meeting, the meeting will be highlighted in green in your Scheduler indicating that the meeting is now in progress:

IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE:
1. Start the same meeting at any time:
Please note that you do not have to start the meeting at the exact time that was scheduled. In this case the meeting was originally scheduled for 6th Feb 2009 at 11:30am. However if I wish I can start the same meeting at any time and day I wish e.g. today Wednesday 18th March 2009

2. Meeting ID will always be the same:
For any scheduled meeting, the same meeting ID will always be saved in my scheduler and I can start this meeting with this ID at any time I wish. This allows me to save multiple meeting IDs and send them in advance to my meeting participants. So I can start this particular meeting whenever I wish and I will always receive this ID, 524-644-209.

Scheduling a New Meeting
To add a new scheduled meeting, click on “New”. The window, seen below, opens and you can then set the following:

Topic

Start (including date, time and time zone)

Expected Duration

Recurrence Pattern

Your Name

Meeting Password (only if you wish to set a password for the meeting)

Conference Call Information
If you intend to use the Mikogo Voice Conferencing service, tick the checkbox as in the image above. This will simply include the call conference info in your scheduled meeting details, which you can later send to your participants. You can later choose if you actually wish to have a conference call with your participants or not. Ticking the checkbox just means you opt to send your participants this info.

If you wish to send your participants info for another conferencing service, you can do so by checking “Use Own Conference Call Service”. This will then allow you to type in the white text box below and provide the information on your conference call service that your participants will require.
Tick the disk icon under the text box to save this info for later needs.

If you wish to receive an email shortly before your scheduled meeting to remind you, tick “Remind Me” and enter your email address in the field.

When you have filled out all the fields you require, click “Save”. You will then see your Scheduler again containing the new scheduled meeting.

Starting Today’s Meeting
Come the day of a scheduled meeting, in this case today is Wednesday, the meeting scheduled for the day will be highlighted in orange. When it comes to the scheduled time, click on the meeting and click “Start”. You will then receive the Meeting Info Window with the appropriate meeting ID.

Sending the Meeting Info to Participants
From the image above you can see a few buttons at the bottom of the Scheduler. Click on your meeting of choice, and then click “Email Invitation”. Alternatively you can click on “Copy Invitation” and then paste the info into a new email. This will contain all the info that you included when you made the new scheduled meeting. Then email it to your participants.
Of course you can do this days before the meeting begins and notify your participants of the upcoming meeting.

Participants Joining a Meeting
Say for example, yesterday you emailed your participants the info for today’s meeting. A couple of minutes before you start the meeting, a participant goes to www.mikogo.com, clicks on “Join Meeting” and enters the meeting ID. In this case, the participant will arrive in the waiting room until you start the meeting:

A couple of minutes later when you do in fact start the meeting, the participants who are in the waiting room will instantly be joined to the meeting.

As you know, today was the release of the latest version of Mikogo, v2.0.3. When using this version and looking to playback recorded meetings, there is something to take note of.

When upgrading to v2.0.3, you may have uninstalled your previous version of Mikogo then downloaded and installed the new version. If so, then to playback your recorded meetings you can simply open your Start Menu, go to “Mikogo”, then Meeting Player, and open your recorded v2.0.3 meetings.

However if you proceeded with the automatic upgrade and are looking to playback your recorded v2.0.3 meetings, there is a slight issue during playback when using the Meeting Player that you access under “Mikogo” via the Start menu.
Consequently, we would suggest downloading the Mikogo Meeting Player separately to playback your recorded meetings. Download Mikogo Meeting Player.

Alternatively if you do not wish to download the Meeting Player, simply uninstall and re-install Mikogo as mentioned above. Download Mikogo. This will provide you with the Meeting Player which you can then access via the Start Menu and playback your meetings.

Need to playback a Mikogo meeting which was recorded with a previous version? No worries. You can download previous MeetingPlayer versions here:
MeetingPlayer-Version-1-0-0 can playback recordings with file name extenstion .bsr
MeetingPlayer-Version-2-0-0 can playback recordings with file name extenstion .bs3
MeetingPlayer-Version-2-0-3 can playback recordings with file name extenstion .bs4

Recently we have been at work on equipping Mikogo with even faster free screen sharing. Fine tuning speed and response times is an important task to ensure that Mikogo provides all users (regardless of location around the world) with the best real-time screen sharing experience. So we have taken the Mikogo core screen sharing technology and amped it up! The result: this giraffe will give the cheetahs a run for their money Consequently we are pleased to announce that tomorrow we will release the latest and fastest version of Mikogo: Version 2.0.3

Upgrading to Version 2.0.3
In order to incorporate the speed improvements, changes were made in the communication protocol and therefore with the release of v2.0.3 an upgrade will be necessary. Therefore to officially launch the newest Mikogo version, an upgrade will take place tomorrow, 11 February 2009.

Automatic Upgrade Will Take Place Tomorrow
You can get the new version via the automatic upgrade function. When you start a meeting tomorrow, you will be notified of the upgrade. Please accept. This is very quick, as you will not need to re-enter your user details.

Alternatively you could follow these quick steps to install the latest version:

1. Uninstall your current Mikogo software from your PC

2. Download and install the new version by clicking here tomorrow, 11th Feb 2009

3. Click on the M icon in your system tray > select “Start Meeting” > & enter your username and password (Forgot your password? Click here)

4. Click OK and your first Mikogo v2.0.3 meeting will begin

Naturally, your current account details (username & password) will work as normal when entered into the new version.

Enjoy the speed of free desktop sharing with Mikogo

3. Start a Meeting with Version 2.0.1
Click on the M icon in your system tray and select “Start Meeting”. As this is your first meeting, this will open the Mikogo Settings window.

Enter your username (i.e. registered email address), your password and your name in the settings. This info will be saved for your future meetings.

To make life easy, there is no need to register a new account. Your current account will work perfectly on the new software. If you have forgotten your password, please click here for a new password.

Click Ok, and the meeting will begin. A notification window above the M icon, as well as the Meeting Info window, with the current meeting ID.

Distribute the 9-digit ID to your meeting participants for them to join your free screen sharing.

If you accidentally enter the incorrect details (username or password), you can click on the M icon in the system tray, and select Settings to re-enter your details. If this happens, it is important that you clear out all fields in the settings and then re-enter the user details.

Note: both the meeting organizer as well as the participants will need to update. Participants can receive the new participant program here or by clicking on the “Join Meeting” link on the Mikogo homepage.

Test your Mikogo connection: if you would like to check whether you have properly upgraded and installed the new version, try the following:

Click on the M icon in your system tray

Select “Join Meeting”

Enter meeting ID: 000-000-000

This will connect you to a continual meeting which is a slide show and confirms that you are successfully connected. If you see this, then you have upgraded perfectly and are ready to begin!

For further assistance with upgrading, please leave a comment below or on the Mikogo Forum.

αlpha, βeta….Mikogo…..

As you have heard, we are close to releasing the next Mikogo version. To keep everyone updated on whats going on here at Mikogo, we just wanted to let you all know that the new Mikogo version is currently in the stage of beta testing.
We have handed the Mikogo Beta version over to several tech and software bloggers, who are out on the case now. This is a great opportunity to receive feedback on the new features.

In fact we’ve already received the thumbs up from several of the beta testers. Davide, from downloadblog.it, actually even blogged about his beta testing experience with a screenshot showing the new Mikogo whiteboard toolbar along with the new-look Meeting Info window: http://www.downloadblog.it/post/7738/mikogo-nuova-beta-in-arrivo

Stay tuned for the announcement of the official release date!

There’s been a bit of talk and gossip going on within the Mikogo Community and the Web collaboration world about a possible new Mikogo version…….

And the buzz is true. We are currently working on a new version which will be released soon with several additional features to be included. So with all this buzz going around, we thought we’d let you all in on our plans and give you a sneak preview of what you can expect in the next version.

Drum roll, please!!

New features will include:

Whiteboard: with this you will be able to highlight areas of your presentation or meeting with an easy-to-use toolbar.

Back Monitor: this small box, highlighted in the bottom right corner of the picture, shows you exactly what the participants can see when viewing your screen.

Scheduler: a great new feature that allows you to schedule multiple meetings in advance and send emails to all your meeting participants to give them the heads up. To make sure you’re organized and prepared for all your meetings, you can select to receive a reminder email prior to the start of the meeting. Also, there’ll be a waiting room for any keen participant that joins the meeting before the organizer, providing a professional means of getting together for your online meetings.

Session recording: with this feature you and the meeting participants will be able to record the meetings for later playback and for your own records.

Email meeting ID and time to participants: simply click the button and an email will be prepared containing the directions and details for your meeting participants.

Copy Meeting ID: If you just wish to send your participants the meeting ID, you can simply click the button and copy the ID – quick and hassle-free.

The new Mikogo Menu:

So there’s what you can expect in the next version. We think the new software will give a lot more flexibility and possibilities when organizing and participating in Mikogo meetings, and we’re looking forward to getting it out there and hearing your feedback.

And last but not least, will the new version be free? Absolutely. All the new features will be included for free.
