As you may have heard in Mark’s interview on Computer America, we are close to finishing the Linux version and have recently been testing it internally. We have received many requests via our Forum and Facebook page by people who are after the Mikogo Linux version. We are now asking for these people to help us out by testing the Linux version before we release it to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Read below for details on being a Linux beta tester.

If you are a Linux user and you would like to test the Linux version, please click on the link below to sign up to our Linux Beta Testers list. The link will take you to a sign up page and will ask for your first name and email address.

    Hi there

    I would like to see how Mikogo works – but don’t yet know of anyone else who uses it. Also, please pardon my lack of knowledge, but my computer runs Windows Vista, does this mean I couldn’t take part in this Linux Beta testing project.

    If I could, I’d certainly be interested to give it a go!

    Best regards

    Graham

    @Graham
    Mikogo is not only available for Linux (in fact the Linux beta version has not been released yet).
    But you can in fact use Mikogo now. For a Vista computer, you can use the Windows version of Mikogo. You can download the latest release, Version 4.0, from here: http://www.mikogo.com/download/new-version-4/ There are user guides on that page in the left-hand column to assist.
    With this Version 4.0 software you will then be able to participate in a desktop sharing session with someone who uses the Linux version, once the Linux version has been released.

    This would be a great addition to Mikogo. I registered for the Beta. Good luck guys with the development.

    I am already a mikogo windows user and would now like to give the linux beta a try and support the beta test if I can. However when trying to sign-up as a Linux beta tester by using the link above I am getting an error ‘Email address has already been taken’.

    Cool, I’ve been using the windows version under wine with some success but a native version would be very nice! :)

    @Thomas
    Thanks for signing up. Not sure why you received an error. I checked the system and your email address (the same one you used when leaving the comment) has been added, and I double-checked that you’re a part of the Linux beta testers list so you will receive the email when we announce the beta stage.

    Any idea when the beta will be made available. I signed up but have not heard anything yet.

  14. Andrew on May 27, 2011 at 5:09 pm

    @Erik, thanks for signing up. We have not yet released the Linux beta version (and hence not sent any emails about it to you yet) but if you have signed up then you will receive an email from us as soon as it is available

    How close are we to a Linux Beta. I am evaluating Linux as a replacement desktop OS. Desktop sharing/web-based support type software is one of the last remaining hurtles.

  16. Andrew on June 30, 2011 at 7:07 pm

    @Rich
    we just started the Linux beta stage today and sent out the email about this to everyone who subscribed to be a beta tester. Enjoy! And thanks for being a beta tester – we’re looking forward to receiving responses and feedback.

    @Andrew
    Got the email and had already downloaded and tried out the new Linux beta. Outstanding! Had already found and submitted a bug (Font being too big when the font rendering DPI is set to higher (147 in my case) than normal (which is 96)), and I’m guessing the app and screen selection options aren’t available yet, but I had already tested sharing my main screen to a friend who was across the Atlantic. He was watching through the HTML browser version, and I’m pretty impressed at how well the software was keeping up with the compiz effects I had enabled.

    I’ll be ready when a client calls in needing support, and I’ll be able to do it through native Linux instead of running over wine this time!

  18. Andrew on July 1, 2011 at 11:52 am

    @Nick
    thanks for getting straight into testing the new Linux beta. Yes, the application selection feature is not available in the Linux build, however you’ll find that the high majority of features are there (including the most important features for screen sharing and online meetings). So while a couple of features are not available in the Linux version, this beta version now means there is a native Linux client for people to start/join sessions with and use it for screen sharing sessions with other Linux users or even PC and Mac users, and enjoy a wide range of features.

    Thanks for submitting the bug. I assume you sent it to beta(at)mikogo.com. Our support team and developers will handle that.

    And great to hear that you’ve already been testing the beta version in a real desktop sharing scenario with your friend overseas!

    Hi,
    I just signed up for the beta testing and was wondering if emails for the beta would get resent?

    Thanks,
    Philip
