New-Look Mikogo Software – what do you think?

Andrew – August 7, 2009

In order to reflect the new look website, we are going to release a new version of the Mikogo software which will include the new Mikogo logo and icons. Consequently we’ve been working on the design of some new system tray Mikogo M icon icons, which you can see below.

Before having the new M icon icons designed, we had to consider a few factors:

  • Visibility – icons need to be seen by the users, especially if it is their first time using our software.
  • Ease-of-use – we wanted to stick with an M icon icon as it is easy to communicate and people are used to this now.
  • New Mikogo Logo and Website – icons should reflect the colors and theme of the new look website.

With this in mind, we introduce to you the new Mikogo icons:

  1. Application icon:
  2. Mikogo app icon

  3. Tray icons:
  4. tray icons vista

    tray icons XP

So what does everyone think? Please leave your comments and feedback below in the comments.
And if you have any suggestions for how we could improve the icons before we release the software, please be sure to leave your comment – we would be very interested to read your suggestions for alternative icons.

Thanks!

The new system tray icons. They will show up much better. I also like the new look of your website, but you seem to be moving away from the giraffe. I really liked the giraffe and think it fits your name and look.

Hi – I find the red M on the white ground the best colour combination – all the other colour combinations are too far away from the original Mikogo logo.

But looking at your logo: Why didn’t you combine the red M with an orange background?

    Just my thoughts…

    Regards – Joerg

I think the new icons are more modern then the old yellow logo. They are also more professional. Great job again! :-)

Just discovered your site, I have been using GoToMeeting for quite a while. Looking forward to trying out your product.

On the icons, a black border on the tray icons (like the app icon) could give them better contrast, especially on the XP toolbar.

Icons are OK, but red M on white background is looking very similar to McAfee Agent logo.

I have version 3.x (portable), but my system tray icons don’t look like the ones on this page.

    @Dwight,
Please read the first sentence of the blog post: “we are going to release a new version of the Mikogo software which will include the new Mikogo logo and icons.”
Note the following words: “going to” & “will”.

We have not released the new software with new icons yet. But we’re working on it. We added the above the blog post as a bit of preview and to gain some feedback.

What is your feedback on the new icons?
    Thanks!

This icon looks OK but why don’t you use a minute
version of Mikogo logo (monitor?) itself.

That way it becomes easy to spot Mikogo among other applications ( like Mc Cafe, Google Talk) that use M in their icons.

It is not mandatory to put M in the icon. Any visual indication thats unique is fine.. for the brain to remember its Mikogo.

Agree with the Mcafee comment it’s a bit close – Look the the icon with a Red M.. which one ?

I have been a Mikogo user for close to 6 months now. Your older version worked without any hitches. With the newer version I find that it crashes quite a bit and I have to keep restarting the application.
I’ve loved your product but have been frustrated since the new release came out. Please fix!
    Thanks
