Mikogo Skype Extra on Skype 4 Beta
Recently we noticed a slight hurdle when using the Mikogo Skype Extra with Skype 4 Beta. Some people have received a message, “This plugin is not allowed”, when using Skype 4. Unfortunately there appears to be an issue when downloading the Mikogo Extra directly to the Skype 4 Beta Extras Manager.
If you have experienced the above message preventing the Mikogo Skype Extra, you will be happy to know that there is a solution.
For example if you have Skype 3.8 (for example version 3.8.0.154), downloaded the Mikogo Extra and then upgraded to a Skype 4 Beta, you will have the Extra in your Extras Manager, and it will work perfectly.
However if you have Skype 3.8 without the Mikogo Extra, then upgrade to Skype 4 beta, and later get the Mikogo Extra, you may receive the message: “This plugin is not allowed”.
In short, the Mikogo Skype Extra does in fact work normally via Skype 4 Beta. The solution can be found by upgrading from an official version of Skype 3.8 to Skype 4 Beta.
Solution – please follow these steps:
1. Install Skype 3.8 (for example, 3.8.0.154)
2. Download the Mikogo Skype Extra
3. Then upgrade from Skype 3.8 to Skype 4 Beta.
You will then be able to use the Mikogo Extra from the Beta version of Skype 4.
Once you have upgraded from Skype 3.8, already with the Mikogo Extra, to Skype 4 Beta, you can start meetings and send invitations to your Skype contacts.

I don´t want to unistal my skype e install again… Whatta bad solution..
It seems this solution dosen’t work in Skype 4 (not Beta). I had Mikogo installed before the upgrade.
Are you guys working on this? It’s a great program, but I’m not downgrading just to be able to use mikogo
I have same problem. I had Mikogo installed before upgrade, but it doesn’t in released Skype 4.
Looking into what can be done. Thanks for your comments.
Btw, you can use the standalone version of Mikogo from http://www.mikogo.com while chatting on Skype. This also gives you access to Mikogo’s meeting scheduler.
Getting “This plugin is not allowed”, Where can I get Skype 3.8?
@Bruce,
I usually use FileHippo.
Yes, we’re aware of the plugin not allowed situation now with Skype 4. Unfortunately we were left in the dark about the changes in Skype 4 and so therefore we’ve been thrown in the deep end with this one. We’ll keep you posted via the Blog on any news regarding the Extra.
One thing I do not understand from the info either here or on the skype site, is if using the mikogo plugin is enough to share the screen to skype users that do not have it installed
@Gaetano,
If using the Mikogo Skype Extra, both you and your invited Skype contacts need to get the Mikogo Extra from here: https://extras.skype.com/1672 Then you can organize a Mikogo Skype meeting. Check out this video on sending the Extra to your Skype contacts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niPiYq0FNcE At 1min58sec you can see Lisa (the participant) receiving the Extra).
Alternatively use the standalone Mikogo app from http://www.mikogo.com In this case there is no need for participants to install Mikogo – they just click on “Join Meeting” and enter the ID
We are using the standalone version of Mikogo along with Skype (4.0.0.2x), but the integration would be more seamless. Please keep us posted on a Skype fix. We really like your product — is there a way that we can pay you guys to have Mikogo branded for our employees.
When will Mikogo work with the standard Skype 4 release (4.0.0.206+)? I think our company could get a lot of use from this tool but since we’re all on Skype 4 we can’t seem to get it working.
@Kareem,
Developers will be looking into this and any news will be revealed on the blog.
In the meantime, have you used the standalone version of Mikogo? You don’t have to use the Mikogo Skype Extra in order to start free online meetings with Mikogo.
Start a Mikogo meeting using the standalone version from http://www.mikogo.com and then start a Skype conference call with your clients/colleagues. Use both in tandem.
